Death of Amiga 3,5" DS-DD disks
Many, in many places advertise Commodore Amiga 3,5" DS-DD disks that have been untested, or disks that have been tried out and it starts working... Unfortunately, that it starts doesn't mean that it is good either.
Who wouldn't have run into the problem, that while the game was loading the next track the disk could not be read? Annoying, isn't it?
The Commodore Service receives lots of Amiga disks as gifts. We formatted the last such offering - which was 25 3,5" DS-DD disks - for the purpose of testing (from command prompts on a PC).
The result was disappointing. We were able to format only 1 out of 25. The others either couldn't make it to formatting, or got stuck during formatting.
Who pays for these disks comes off very badly... we tell everybody: even though the Amiga disk starts, it doesn't mean that it will work either...
Unfortunately, these Amiga disks have become very out-dated. We cannot declare that if it's stored in a cabinet, it will certainly work later. It won't. By all means, we can find some functioning pieces among them, but it's like Scotch mist.
