XUM1541 USB - developed by László Nagy
introduction
While with SD2iEC we copied Commodore programs and disk image files to SD card, with XUM 1541 we can write them directly from modern PC to Commodore disks.
This solution doesn’t replace any other modern solutions. However, we recommend this to those who really like to remember the old times and continuously load files.
The XUM1541 USB supports the following Commodore and their Clone drives:
- 1540
- 1541
- 1541C
- 1541/II
- 1570
- 1571
- 1581
- OCEANIC
- BlueChip
With CBM Transfer, you can treat your floppy drive as if you were using a Commodore computer. Of course, with the difference that we can easily get things done with Windows.
You can format, copy files, delete or even modify files, and most importantly, write full image file sor create image files from disk.
It allows you to easily format double-sided disks or even write double-sided games.
We made it based on this: logout.hu

quick installation help
Connect the XUM1541 USB to the Commodore drive with a SERIAL cable, but DO NOT turn on the drive! Then connect it to the PC with a USB cable. Then start the downloaded zadig-2.5.exe program.
On the Options tab select List All Devices.
Select the xum1541 floppy adapter (PROMICRO) from the optional menu.
Then press the Install Driver button. No need to be scared, nothing will happen for like 30 seconds.
If we did everything right, we can check the results in the Device Manager.
Then run install.cmd from the downloaded opencbm-0.4.99.99-libusb1-v2.zip file. Of course, the zip file must first be unzipped to a temporary library, which can be deleted after installation.
Next, start the setup.exe program from the downloaded CBM-Transfer100-setup.zip file. Instead of the suggested installation path, install it in the c:\Program Files\opencbm\ folder. If you do not install the CBM-Transfer program there, you will not see the floppy drive at startup.
We can now turn on the floppy drive.
You can then start the CBM-Transfer program and if necessary, select the port number of the drive (Device: 8, 9, 10, and 11). If you have connected more than one drive to the XUM1541 USB, you can use this port selector to switch between them.
We can only repeat ourselves, the turn-on order:
The XUM1541 USB must be connected to the floppy drive with a SERIAL cable, then the USB cable can be plugged into the PC.
Then you can turn on the drive. If the drive crashes while reading or writing, it can be turned off and on. However, the CBM-Transfer program will most likely need to be restarted. Unfortunately, the program won’t reset when the floppy is turned on or off.
Switching off is the reverse order of the above! If we do not do it like this, we will kill the translator logic IC of the floppy SERIAL BUS and then you can bring it for repair.
